The BIG BAMBOO is a DesignBuild summer studio at the Architecture Department at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. The studio focuses on the process of making and experimenting with materials as the driving force of architectural design. It aims to explore workshop-based design methodologies, while working on natural materials with algorithmic-design procedures and digital fabrication.
The learning process of designers and architects is significantly enhanced through "hands-on" engagement with the realization of full-scale prototype structures through which they can test spatial ideas and attain a deep phenomenal understanding of their design.
The studio is a collaboration between The Bamboo Center, the Architecture Department at the University of Nicosia and the Architecture Department at Bezalel, and is financially supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Israeli Green Buildings Council.
